A Personalised Approach to Learning

Our curriculum draws on elements of the National Curriculum, pupil voice and our own bespoke learning programmes. A rolling two-year plan provides a varied range of learning experiences, themes and subjects, while allowing teaching to respond to individual strengths and interests.

Our extensive grounds provide additional opportunities for learning, including access to Forest School and outdoor education. These experiences allow students to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and practical skills in a different learning environment.

The school is organised into Lower School (Years 7, 8 and 9) and Upper School (Years 10 and 11). Each follows its own timetable, allowing the curriculum and learning environment to reflect the differing needs and priorities of each cohort.

Our Curriculum Aims to

  • Provide learning appropriate to each pupil’s age, aptitude and individual needs
  • Develop speaking, listening, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Provide a broad range of academic, creative, physical and practical learning
  • Support personal, social, health and relationship education
  • Develop confidence, independence and self-esteem
  • Provide appropriate careers education and guidance
  • Prepare pupils for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life
  • Promote social, moral, spiritual and cultural development
  • Help students understand social justice and their ability to make a positive difference

A Complete Curriculum that Stretches Beyond the Classroom

Reading at The Belsteads School

Reading at The Belsteads School

We aim to develop a lifelong love of reading and ensure every student can access and enjoy the written and spoken word. Reading supports academic achievement while developing language, curiosity, empathy and creativity. Students have access to targeted reading interventions where required, alongside our school library, visiting library services, online platforms, author visits and activities such as World Book Day.
